Computer freezes during install of Daemon Tools Lite.

$

I just don't know why it would do this. I had Daemon Tools Lite on my computer before, and it worked like it should. Now, some time later (6 months+) after not using it at all, I tried mounting a .iso file, and my computer froze up, I couldn't move my cursor or anything. However, audio was still playing, but it was kind of distorted and choppy. I just assumed something went wrong when I mounted it, so I just restarted my computer and tried again, with the same result.
It was at this point I decided to uninstall Daemon Tools Lite completely, and install the latest version. However, in the middle of the install my computer froze in the same manner, so it was obviously not the .iso being corrupt or anything. If anyone knows what could be causing this, it'd be greatly appreciated if you let me know.

Bad block error

I have successfully made three disc images with DAEMON Tools Lite. I then tried to make an image of some more discs, these ended in this error "Operation hit a ECC/EDC bad (recoverable) block (1228)" or something like that. I've tried every solution I could think of, reinstalling, using different formats, trying it on different computers, etc.

ANY help would be appreciated.

PS. One other question I have is, is there any preference between using the .MDX format or the .ISO format? What are the differences between the two? Are there any advantages of either?

Thanks!

Cannot Autostart Daemon Tools with Windows

I am not able to configure Daemon Tools Lite 4 to autostart with Windows.

I have checked the relevant option in the GUI, which adds an entry to the registry / HKCU for "DTLite.exe -autorun". After rebooting, Daemon Tools isn't running. I tried autostarting it from the Startup group without success. If I remove the autorun parameter, the program is automatically started showing the image management dialog, but is closed after a couple seconds.

I do not have any antiviruses installed. No error dialog is shown when DT is closed: it just disappears, and most likely closes itself.

If executed manually, with or without the autostart parameter, DTLite.exe always runs (either minimized or showing the dialog), but not automatically by the system.

System: Windows XP SP3

This problem appears to be quite old.

Problems with Windows 8.1 64bit, Proevolution Soccer 2014 and Securom

Hello
I have installed Windows 8.1 64bit Pro (clean install) and since then when using Daemon tools Lite (the latest version with STPD that comes with it) I can't play the game.
I have an mdf image and and mdx and an ISO image , all of those fail and I get "Emulation Software detected , Securom error 2700 ....... blah blah"
I tried all IDE SCSI and DT drives and all with same result.
I have the original game and made the image with my laptop and was playing fine on my desktop with the exact same DT tools lite and everything was running great but now on Windows 8.1 I can't run it
I heard about attaching the DT drive with physical drive but I have no physical DVD drive on my PC :(

So now what should I do ? I tried STPD 1.84 and 1.86 both 64 bit and then 32 bit and both don't work .

Thanks in advance

Corrupt/locked SPTD.sys

Hi,

I have a problem and need help.

First of all
I'm using windows 7, Home premium, service pack 1, x64 bit, 8 GB memory RAM.

The problem starts several days ago, my daemon tools shows an error message when I try to mount an image:

"This program needs at least Windows 2000 with SPTD 1.51 or higher Kernel debugger must be deactivated"

Note:
I have read the SPTD FAQs and some other similar case in the forum. None would help in my case.

Also I did not install anything prior this error, so there shouldn't be any changes made voluntarily by me.

As shown in the picture above, the installer did not detect any SPTD, however you can see, the file is still visible.

Reinstalling the standalone installer will show the same error message as if I install SPTD along with daemon tool.

"system file write error. Disable possible antivirus applications."

This is the x64 installer. Tried x32 too, but wrong version.

Note: the Daemon tool installed perfectly, the problem is when I try to mount an image.

I do not have any antivirus, windows defender turned off.

Last time formatted was 10-11 months ago and never did install any anti virus software.

I have been using daemon tools for months, probably since laptop last formatted.

The daemon tools stop working suddenly. I didn't recall installing anything prior. I think the problem occur due to sudden electricity lost when an image is still mounted and causes a corrupt file of SPTD.sys.

I drawn to the conclusion this is a corrupted file due to sudden computer shut down (lost electricity). Because the following things I have tried:

- I never installed any antivirus software since the clean format. This error message before I install malwarebytes with bit defender turned off.

- Installed and Scanned with malwarebytes, result: clean

- Scan with malwarebytes, emulation disabled with defogger, result: clean

- Daemon tools installed or uninstalled, problem persists. Still can't install the SPTD due to old SPTD file is locked (I cannot rename / delete)

- Requires my permission to delete this file. I am the admin and the only user of this laptop. Changing permission (nothing needed to be changed actually since I am the sole user and admin of this laptop) still keeps denying my access to delete it, even I have 'checked full control' checkbox of the file.

- In Computer management > system tools > Event viewer. The SPTD.sys is listed under error category : "Driver detected an internal error in its data structures for ."

Update --> Up to date.

Uninstall --> Will be reinstalled automatically when the next time I run daemon tool. And will show the same error.

I do not see any troubleshoot button.

I did try uninstall/delete the file and registry in safe mode. Problem persists as if it's not in safe mode.

- in SPTD FAQs, written :
Find "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\ Services\sptd" registry key in REGEDIT and set DWORD Start value to 4 (i.e. disabled).

I did not need to do that since when I opened the registry, the value already shown as 4.

I can delete the registry in normal mode and safe mode without a problem. I can set the permission. But the next time I open regedit, the SPTD is back on the registry as if I did nothing. The file: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\SPTD.sys still exist.

- Tried to use fileassassin from malwarebytes. It says it cannot delete the file or the file is not visible to fileassassin.

- Tried LockHunter software (if anyone familiar). Showed this:

And cannot be deleted in the next system restart.

What should I do?

Thanks in advance.

4491-0356 won't install

Daemon tools lite 4.49.1 won't install. It goes to the screen with progress bar and "show details" button, but does nothing. The details window is blank if I click the button, and the progress bar shows no progress; I've let it sit for well over 15 minutes. Anyone know why this is happening? Windows 7 32-bit.

Image Compatibility Between Daemon Tools Versions

$

Hi,

Does anybody knows if there's a way to convert MDS images created with newer versions of Daemon Tools in a file format compatible with older releases?

I've built a very small cdrom-less retropc, useful to play some old games on their original environment; specifically using Windows 98.

My original idea was to rip my games using Daemon Tools Pro (5.02.0348) on my modern desktop, store most games inside a network drive as MDS images, and mount them using the extremely ancient 3.47 release from the retropc system.

Unfortunately it seems that the MDS file format has changed somewhere in time, because the old version of Daemon Tools can't open the newly made images. Unfortunately I haven't found any information about those changes inside the DT changelog.

Is there a way to convert them? Like, just by hex-editing the version number of the header?
Or, In case I have to re-rip all my games (aaaargh...), does anybody knows which is the most recent version of Daemon Tools Pro which still supports the older format? To rip my games I'm using Windows 7 SP1 32-bit, by the way.

How to save and remount a Ramdrive?

Greetings, I am new so please bear with me a bit. I have made a 4gb ram drive. I copied a game installation from hdd to the ram drive. Is there a way to save that game from the ram drive so that it will load again after I reboot or such? I tried to make an image but I guess that function is for CD/DVD/etc. I am using the DT Ultra trial. If I can figure this out I'll probably buy a license as it appears to be a nice program. Any ideas?:confused:

Hello -- I am running win/xp under vbox -- I just did an install of dtlite4481-0347.exe

During the install, I also selected SPDT -- after the install finished, I did the reboot and
the system would not reboot -- I had to pick the start up option using the last good boot.

I did a reinstall of dtlite4481-0347.exe and this time did not include SPDT -- it install ok and seems to work OK --

Is this an known issue? I also have seen this condition with virtual PC (xpmode)

Invalid virtual drives.

How to change drive letter Daemon Tools without GUI

$

Hi everybody,

I signed up to this forum so I can share my solution to change the Daemon Tools drive letter without user interference.

Because we have a lot of different workstations that all have to use the same drive letter and I couldn't find an exact solution, I found and edited the following VB script to work with Daemon Tools.

Quote:

On Error Resume Next

'Device IDs
DeviceID1 = "DTSOFTBUS&REV1\DTCDROM&REV1\1&79F5D87&0&00"
DeviceID2 = "DTSOFTBUS&REV1\DTCDROM&REV1\1&79F5D87&0&00"
DeviceID3 = "DTSOFTBUS&REV1\DTCDROM&REV1\1&79F5D87&0&00"
DeviceID4 = "DTSOFTBUS&REV1\DTCDROM&REV1\1&79F5D87&0&00"
DeviceID5 = "DTSOFTBUS&REV1\DTCDROM&REV1\1&79F5D87&0&00"

strComputer = "."
Dim nRtn, WshShell
Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery("Select * from Win32_CDROMDrive")

Dim driveFound
driveFound = False

For Each objItem in colItems
If driveFound Then Exit For
Select Case (objItem.DeviceID)
Case DeviceID1
x = ChgDrv ("Y:", objItem.Drive)
driveFound = True
Case DeviceID_2
x = ChgDrv ("Y:", objItem.Drive)
driveFound = True
Case DeviceID3
x = ChgDrv ("Y:", objItem.Drive)
driveFound = True
Case DeviceID4
x = ChgDrv ("Y:", objItem.Drive)
driveFound = True
Case DeviceID5
x = ChgDrv ("Y:", objItem.Drive)
driveFound = True
End Select
Next

Function ChgDrv(Drive, theDrive)
If theDrive <> Drive Then

'Create File
strFilename = "chgdrv" & Left(Drive,1) & ".txt"
Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objFile = objFSO.CreateTextFile(strFilename)
objFile.Close

'Write Data to File
Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile (strFilename, 2)
objFile.WriteLine "select volume " & theDrive
objFile.WriteLine "assign letter=" & Drive
objFile.WriteLine "exit"
objFile.Close

'Run Diskpart calling the script just created
strRun = "diskpart /s " & strFilename
nRtn = wshShell.Run(strRun, 2 , True)

'Delete File
objFSO.DeleteFile(strFilename)
Else
WScript.Echo "Drive is already in use " & Drive
End If
End Function
This script changes the current drive letter to Y:

This can easily be changed to any other drive letter by editing the letter Y: to any other drive letter that is not in use.

As far as I know Daemon Tools always uses the deviceID DTSOFTBUS&REV1\DTCDROM&REV1\1&79F5D87&0&00, but if this ever changes it can easily be retrieved by opening msinfo32.exe and expand 'Components' > 'CD-ROM'.
The Device ID's in the VB script should be made similar to the PNP Device ID information in the Microsoft system information application.
